Better to do without outdoor sports at the moment

The tropical temperatures are currently bringing up numerous experts who explain what should be observed to avoid health risks.

The head of the Institute for Sports Medicine at the UKM (University Hospital Münster), Univ.-Prof. Stefan-Martin Brand, has some recommendations.

In a press release from the UKM, he advises amateur athletes to avoid outdoor sports in the current sweaty heat.

At least, however, people who cannot let go, for example, should follow certain rules to avoid overheating or heat stroke.

What amateur athletes should watch out for in the heat

When asked if it was a good idea to do sports at temperatures well over thirty degrees, Prof. Brand explained: “For inexperienced people and people who are not very, very fit, I would currently like to run outdoors, for example not recommend at all. "

In his opinion, this should otherwise "only do people who are really fit and who know what they are getting into if you pull it through at 36 degrees."

According to the expert, the body usually needs around 14 days to adapt to such outside temperatures.

So if it doesn't have to be, running should be postponed to next week.

If you still want to exercise, it is best to choose an environment without sun exposure, for example in a park or on a promenade with a thick canopy of leaves.

The University Clinic of Jena (UKJ) has another tip on its website: You should be active in the cooler hours of the morning or late in the evening in order to reduce the heat load on the body.

Always stop in case of sudden pain

But when does it become dangerous for the exerciser?

According to Prof. Brand, there are unfortunately amateur athletes who like to overlook the signs of their bodies and go beyond certain points because they want to keep their personal performance.

"They ignore the pain in their knees or take pain relievers before exercising so that they can walk a certain distance," said the expert.
