Sold at Lidl: manufacturer calls back minced meat because of plastic foreign bodies

The manufacturer WestfalenLand Fleischwaren GmbH has started a recall for the products "Landjunker ground beef, 500g" and "Landjunker SELECTION ground beef from the heifer, 400g". According to the company, it cannot be ruled out that there are red plastic foreign bodies in the meat sold at Lidl.

The manufacturer WestfalenLand Fleischwaren GmbH calls back the products "Landjunker minced beef, 500g" with the consumption data 04.09.2009 and 06.09.2019 and "Landjunker SELECTION minced beef from the heifer, 400g" with the usage date 07.09.2019 and the identity code: DE NW 88888 EG . "It cannot be excluded that red plastic foreign bodies are contained in the affected products," says a customer information that was published on the website of the discounter Lidl.

Affected goods have been taken out of sale

According to the information, the affected products "Landjunker minced beef, 500g" and "Landjunker SELECTION minced beef from the heifer, 400g" from the manufacturer WestfalenLand Fleischwaren GmbH with the above-mentioned consumption data at Lidl Germany in all federal states with the exception of Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saarland sold.

The goods affected by the recall have been removed from the sale. Anyone who has bought the affected meat can return it to any Lidl branch. The purchase price will also be reimbursed without presentation of the receipt.

Never consume products

"Because of the possible risk of injury when consumed, customers should definitely pay attention to the recall and never consume the products," says the customer information. Foreign bodies in food can cause many different injuries and complaints. Depending on the size, nature and material, wounds can occur in the mouth and throat when chewing. In addition, swallowed plastic parts can block the esophagus or the digestive organs. If small parts remain in the body, they can sometimes cause inflammation. Internal injuries cannot be ruled out either. (ad)
